Shiviti

I made this image in 1999 for my own practice. This is a version of a 'Shiviti', a traditional contemplative image which is constructed around a divine name. This one also incorporates the kabbalistic formula called the 42-letter name as well as the elements of a complex 'kavanah', or structured meditation. The purpose of this kavanah is immersion and nullification of the mind within basic primordial space.  Below is an extended shiviti which integrates 6 different kavanot that make up a full morning practice session. It was made for my students in 2001.

Below is another example of a litany of interrelated meditations that comprise a practice session. I made this one for my students in 2000. It includes various kavanaot as well as a very special meditation called a 'yichud' (unification) which interpermeates divine names.

The following triptych is the first shiviti I made for my students in 1998. It is a mixture of several kavanot and other contemplative elements.

The next 9 diagrams distill the main points of my kabbalistic innovations from the years 2007-2009 down to their essential graphic forms. They arose from my years of work with the 13th century text "Maayin HaChochmah" (Fountain of Wisdom). I have made many variations of these ideas, but this particular 9-fold array was created to be used as a set of 'keys' to decode the contents of the images in the 2009-2010 page on this website. They are designed for side by side analysis with those images.
